While I don’t live in Europe, it still is often that I find the familiar green, yellow, and red packaging in American grocery stores regardless. I’m sure most of you have heard of the Schär brand, which happens to be my favorite brand of gluten free products. But it’s some of their lesser known products that I love the most.
One of the main things I’ve missed since getting diagnosed with Celiac Disease was pizza. And sure, there’s loads of gluten-free pizza crusts on the market, but I’m talking about thick, doughy crust rather than the thin and chewy crust that most gluten free brands provide. However, I recently came across Schär’s gluten free pizza crusts, and I can definitely say that it’s quickly becoming a staple in my diet. This crust rivals the original gluten-containing crust that I was used to. It’s fluffy, not too chewy, and definitely not too bready either. It has just the right consistency and thickness, which is something that can be very hard to find regardless of how many gluten free pizzas are on the market. Each box contains two individually sealed crusts, so there’s no need to freeze this product right after opening it.
Two of my other favorite products are Schär’s shortbread cookies and honeygrams. The honeygrams are a cross between a graham cracker and a cookie, and I’ve found that they can go really well with both sweet and salty foods. The shortbread cookies are really similar to Trefoil girl scout cookies too.
Lastly, Schär’s sample bread packs, which are only available at gluten-free expos or special events/conventions, are absolute lifesavers when traveling. Since most airports aren’t Celiac savvy, it’s so easy to bring one of these packs and individual peanut butter and jelly packs and make your own meal! If you see these packs at events, make sure to get some. They definitely come in handy for quick and easy meals on the go.
